Know better ... Adrian Sanchez

We had the great fortune to interview Adrian Sanchez, Malaga player pool, regular national circuit pool. Do not miss what matters because not wasted :-)

How long is your passion for pool?

I was very young, I was about 5 years old when I started throwing balls in a pool that was in a cafe that was my father. I had to walk pushing a box of soda to reach the table. Shortly after the club opened in Fuengirola, and that's when I started to take it more seriously.

What are you most passionate about this sport?

I always say it is a sport where head count 80% (concentration) arm and 20% (precision) and you need both to get to 100% and achieve the maximum. If you know you control your mind, your arm will poke balls. To me that is the matrix of the sport and one of the things that makes it nice.

What are the modalities you practice?

Within the 8 ball pool game and 9-ball, but mostly ball game to 10, I think it's more dynamic and I much prefer to train. I also really like the snooker, every time I spend more time.

What cue brand you usually play? What do you change to another?

Game with Schon LTD1507 with arrow 314-2, and I have a Fury FBJ2 break cue. The truth is I am very happy with the two, I was not going through your head change.

How often do you play each week? Do you think that is enough to improve your game?

The truth is I train less than what I would, there are weeks I play 6-8 hours and some weeks I play some more. It is clear that the more you train more confidence you have in yourself and that is reflected in the game.

What club you play normally? Do you think that is well suited for the practice of pool?

I usually play at Cafe 10, a bar in Fuengirola (where I live) which has a 7-foot Valley and Dynamic II of 9 feet, both with good cloth and Aramith balls games TV Pro-Cup.

What do you think should make pool clubs to attract more players?

I think it is important to take into account two factors, firstly you have to capture and enter into the world of snooker to new people, make this sport as they hook us hooked us for many years, making amateur tournaments, leagues internal qualifiers for major tournaments etc. In addition, clubs should know maintain and pamper the players above, leaving the train tables for good prices, contributing to the cost of the championships ... the end of the day are the examples that will follow players beginners and those who are getting to know the local wherever they go.

What was your best game or tournament?

I remember fondly the final of the Championship of Spain in the team RFEB Hotel Casino Torrequebrada. My team of Sami Kadour, Guillermo Fernandez, Eduardo Guillen and a server are up against David Alcaide, Gaspar and Luis Soria Dani ..... almost nothing .... Clashes were: Sami - D. Warden (David won), Guillermo - D. Gaspar (Guille won) and Luis Soria against me for the final tiebreaker, came out September 1st and we proclaim great champions.

Have you always had confidence in your game or, on the contrary, you have come moments of doubt?

As I said before, I started playing very young, so at age 18 or so I decided to stop playing and give me a break, partly because studies and partly for other reasons not worth mentioning. When I realized I had spent more than six years and suddenly felt the itch again you make the dependence of this sport. Then again I was catching competition level and for now I'm just as excited as the first day.

Have you had the opportunity to compete outside Spain?

In my first stage play when I was younger I got the place to play the World Championship in Las Vegas, but not having the age of 16 would not let me go and I kept the thorn stuck. Luckily last year I could sort and was finally able to travel to Las Vegas to play. The tournament was great, I got into the main draw of the tournament between, with such bad luck that I was faced with my great friend Carlos Belmonte to pass the quarter and took the set. I also played some professional circuit test Riley English.

What is the player that you look to try to improve your game?

No special player. I like to look for on each and every one of the opponents who play in both tournaments and training and everyone can take positive things to grow as a player.

Tell us a story that happened to you playing pool

I remember we went to a tournament in Barcelona it was if I remember correctly qualifying for a world championship is going to do in Spain. When we got to look at the quadrants tournament, schedules and so far so good. Soon the organization called us to control table David Lopez "Pumita" and me to tell us that we could not participate in the championship for our age, because neither we reached 16 years which they claimed was the minimum age. After much protest, let us not play the tournament but agreed to pay us 50,000 pesetas each. Imagine that weekend we hit the Pumita and I in Barcelona with 50 thousand pesetas in each pocket.

How do you see the health of the sport in Spain now?

Unfortunately very bad, I think with the change of president RFEB the Pool will lose a lot. To this must be added that more and more different associations with their own circuits and championships that what they do is divide the players, instead of fighting all for the common good.

Why do you think that is down to the players participation in national tournaments?

I think the main factor is economic. Not cheap to go play a tournament, pay registration, travel, per diem, hotel expenses ... and you have to finish first or second.

Where do you think can be the solution?

Everybody, from management to players, clubs and federations through fight for a common goal.

Why do you think that in Spain the pool is not a very attractive sport for the media?

For starters, most people do not even have a sport is just a game where you have to put balls while drinking a beer. If the media were given the opportunity, could prove to be an attractive sport to watch on TV. But how much money moves not like football or tennis can not fight them.

What would you say to young people that was encouraged to practice?

Everywhere, there is a rather large room with a pool table, try, try to play with someone who can give you level the main guidelines and above all FUN.

Is there anything you would like to add ..

Just to thank Poolmanía team, you're doing a great job.

Thank you very much for giving Adrian the interview, and good luck for the coming tournaments :-)
